How do you start the day
(Do you) look outside the window instead of the pane
Look at the sunshine instead of the rain
You know you don’t always have to be
You don’t always have to be

Open up the door and smile
It’ll never hurt you once in a while
Take a look around you and then you’ll realize
That you don’t always have to be
You don’t always have to be
Blue in the face

Turn the world on with your smile
You know it’ll never hurt you once in a while
Open up your eyes
See the sun shining in the bright blue sky

Soon you’ll fall into place
Flying with the eagles and the human race
Take a breath and get high
Say hello to Andromeda and the fire in the sky

On Saturday 8/2/08 Steve, Heather and I woke up at the crack of 7 AM and ran the Richfield 5k (aka the Urban Wildland 5k).  Surprisingly there were a ton of people running the Half Marathon and not very many people running the 5k but despite the fewer numbers I still managed to push little kids out of my way on the to the finish line.  Eye of the tiger!  Here are some of the results:

#001  Ben Stanley M 17:38 – the first male finisher
#003  Amelia Uppgaard F 19:16 – the first female finisher
#054  An Hong 27 M 26:35 – hooray
#161  Steve Pease 28 M 35:19 – aka OTD, the Peasenator
#162  Heather Arntson 24 F 35:19 – aka Nome, fka Prenevost
#197  David Belina M 44:21 – the last male finisher
#209  Katherine Reynolds F 53:39 – the last female finisher
#210  Kathryn Patterson F n/a – did not finish

All in all I’m pretty happy with my time and surprisingly proud of Steve and Heather for finishing at roughly 35 minutes… way to go guys!  Next time I’m going to try to be in the top quarter of runners with a time of 26 minutes (but depending on how things unfold before the race I’d be happy finishing with a time of 26-28 min).

Next up: People for Parks 5k (Lake Harriet) 9/7/08
