September 2008

Dell’s bells.  Today I finally received word that my Dell had arrived (I had it shipped to the apartment office).  I picked it up right before I had to head out to work so I haven’t really had a chance to play with it yet but she sure does look pretty.  I can’t wait to bust out my really lame turn based games on there.  Civ IV, look out!

The four seasons.  I’m not talking about the group, I’m not even talking about nature paterns and I’m not talking about Shaft.  My family asked what I wanted for my birthday and after a week or two I couldn’t think of anything I really wanted but though it’d be cool to catch up on the show Resume Me.  It was on sale at Best Buy so they bought me the first three season and I purchased the fourth and most recent season.  Its pretty cool considering that I can’t remember what I got last year or the year before that.  Once somebody tried to give me a whiskey jar for my birthday… for some unknown reason I didn’t take it.  They must have thought I was a jerk.  Looking back I still don’t know why I didn’t take it.  But perhaps it was meant to serve some greater purpose.  Anyways, Rescue Me is good stuff, I’m glad I got it.  Thanks fam.

This song has been stuck in my head all week:

Oil (aka 710).  Oil briefly dipped below $100 a barrel today before ending up at $101.18.  Hopefully this whole oil thing stays reasonable.

I’m not sure who Sarah Palin is trying to convince in this interview, Charlie Gibson, the US citizens or herself.  Check it out for yourself:

If you read the transcript or watch the interview you will find that Gibson has to repeat questions because Palin continuously side steps them.  I really tried to have an objective opinion here but if we are going to have to live in a McCain/Palin world I’m going pack up my bags and head to Canada (which I should have done eight years ago).  Puke.

Dude, I’m getting a Dell!  where is my Dell?!  Seriously I ordered my Dell notebook computer on 8/11 and now they’ve pushed the delivery time back twice (by a week each time)!  So I will be getting my computer like a month and a half after I ordered it.  What the hizzelle?  I’m beginning to think that I will never get my computer.  But really, I heard the Dell guys is now in a band or something (wiki or youtube Ben Curtis).

US Nationals Tennis: Ghandi Vs. Tenenbaum

Conners, McEnroe, Sampras, Agassi, Navratilova, Seles, Davenport, Graf - these were the names of the tennis players I watched growing up but as a kid I never really paid attention to the fine details, the way each player reacted to a hit, how they hit the ball or how they served, at the time it was just entertainment or what was on the tele.

After high school I stopped playing tennis for a while and didn’t pick up a tennis racket until retively recently, about two or three years ago.  Now I try and get out on the court every week.  All the people I play tennis with are on average twice my age… I have the speed and agility to chase tennis balls down and get to drop shots while they have the acuracy and percision to make me run so it works out pretty evenly.  Every now and then the guys will talk about the tennis players of old, matches or one of the grand slam venues.  – Did you know that the US Open tennis courts were originally grass courts and then in the mid 70s changed to clay for a couple of years before they were changed to hard courts? One day my friend and tennis ringmaster/organizer was talking about Bjorn Borg and Rod Lavor and although I have heard of these supposed tennis gods I really didn’t know much about them.  Well, other than how Richie Tenebaum is supposed to look like Bjorn Borg and the refernce Richie makes about using the grip Rod Lavor used at the end of the Royal Tenenbaums.  So this week I took a little time to look into the tennis players I’ve heard of in the past – Rod Lavor, Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl.  And although I can’t form a solid opinion of them yet I see why so many people talk about them.
